The Final Sermon from R.C. Sproul
I pray with all my heart that God will awaken each one of us today to the sweetness, the loveliness, the glory of the gospel declared by Christ.
The above sentence was the final sentence of the final sermon preached on earth by R.C. Sproul. He preached from Hebrews 2:1-4 with a title A Great Salvation. The sermon was given in his regular pulpit at Saint Andrews Chapel in Sanford, Florida.
Hebrews 2:1-4 (ESV)
Therefore we must pay much closer attention to what we have heard, lest we drift away from it. For since the message declared by angels proved to be reliable, and every transgression or disobedience received a just retribution, how shall we escape if we neglect such a great salvation? It was declared at first by the Lord, and it was attested to us by those who heard, while God also bore witness by signs and wonders and various miracles and by gifts of the Holy Spirit distributed according to his will.
This sermon was preached on November 26, 2017. He passed into the presence of the Lord a few weeks later on December 14, 2017.
Like so many others, I am indebted to the ministry of Sproul. His preaching and his writing will surely be instrumental for Christians until the Lord returns. The Holiness of God should be read by anybody who wants to know God and know him better.
His final sermon lasted 28.5 minutes. Take a half of an hour and listen to this giant of a theologian-preacher. It will be a wise investment.
I challenge you to slowly and meditatively read or listen to that last sentence of the sermon a few times. Let it sink deep within your soul. Do so until Sproul's prayer becomes your prayer and wells up from your soul to the Lord.
