A Short Journey
This feature is written by a dear brother, Ken Sutton. Ken and I are fellow members of NorthPointe Church in Burleson, TX and attend a class as part of the NorthPointe Academy. Ken wrote the following presentation of the gospel for that class. I loved how clearly and succinctly he presented the good news of Jesus Christ. I hope it benefits you as you read it.
The Best News in the World
Ken Sutton
Good morning, I want to share with you the best news in the world, the gospel of Jesus Christ. But first, let’s talk about God. The Bible tells us there is only one true God who created everything, including you and me. He is perfectly holy, perfectly just, and perfectly good. He created us to know Him, love Him, and live under His loving rule.
But here’s our problem, we have all rebelled against God. Every one of us has sinned and chosen our own way instead of God’s way. We’ve ignored Him, disobeyed Him, and put other things in His place. Because God is holy and just, our sin deserves punishment, separated from Him now and forever.
Yet God, in His amazing love, did not leave us without hope. He sent His own Son, Jesus, fully God and fully man to earth. Jesus lived a perfect life that we could never live. Then, Jesus willingly died on the cross, taking the punishment we deserved. He absorbed God’s wrath in our place. On the third day, Jesus rose from the dead, proving He had conquered sin and death.
What is the gospel? Jesus died on the cross for sinners like us and rose again so that anyone who turns from their sins and trusts in Jesus alone can be forgiven, reconciled to God, and have eternal life. Jesus is the only path to God. So, the question is, how will you respond? Will you repent from your sins and put your faith in Jesus today? Trust Jesus and you will be saved.
Three Quotes
When a Christian shuns fellowship with other Christians, the devil smiles. When he stops studying the Bible, the devil laughs. When he stops praying, the devil shouts for joy.

The soul’s deepest thirst is for God himself, who has made us so that we can never be satisfied without him.

Spiritual delight in God arises chiefly from his beauty and perfection, not from the gifts he gives us.

The Mortification Equation
by Joe Smith
Perhaps you are familiar with the quote from John Owen, always be killing sin or it will be killing you. And perhaps you haven’t quite figured out how to do that. Joe Smith provides practical actions to help you do that.
The Best Way to Resist Temptation
by Seth Lewis
Temptation is an enemy that greets you like a close friend. It always wears a warm smile, always knows what to say, and always laughs with that mischievous “won’t this be fun?” twinkle in the eye—until you give in. After that, the spark of excitement begins to fade, chilled by the steadily encroaching cold of condemnation until it freezes hard into an icy, straightforward demand: Feed me.
